TRIP TO POLAND, AUGUST 2005
Almost a year ago, the Great Island Fiddlers were invited to perform at a civic event in the Sirius Arts Center, Cobh. When Poland joined the EU, the Polish town of Kolbuszowa was twinned with the town of Cobh. Some of Poland's politicians were present at the event. After hearing the group play, the Polish politicians were impressed and invited the eight youths, their teacher and accompanist to their home town of Kolbuszowa.
Over the past year, vigorous fund raising has taken place and will continue throughout the summer months. On the 6th of August a group of 16 will travel to Kolbuszowa, Poland: the Great Island Fiddlers, their teacher, accompanist and a number of parents and siblings. We are truly looking forward to this trip!
AWARD
In February, the Great Island Fiddlers won the Music in the Community award at the annual County Cork School of Music awards night.
